Visit to Belwop – Day 2

Veronica Mumbi, “Mum”
Belwop Rescue Centre, Nyeri Kenya

Our 2nd day at Belwop started at 9am with Veronica to learn about her journey of leaving her successful job to start Belwop in 2005, the stories of each child in her care, and the incredible family of people that God has used to support, promote, and serve at Belwop. We were blown away by the amazing displays of God’s providence in bringing forth “divine connections” and drawing people from around the globe to help with this ministry. We’d only slept a couple hours and were both quite sick, but by
God’s grace that didn’t slow us down! It helped having cute little faces
like this around!
Paris (3 years old) came to Belwop about 4 months ago, left abandoned at a hospital.
We quickly became buddies… and yes, I did inquire about adopting her 🙂
Speaking
of adoption, we spent some time this day at another orphanage called New Life
Home Trust. They care for newborns up to 3-yr-olds. We visited with
Gabriel, the manager, about the process of adopting from Kenya. Last
year only 6 children were adopted into the US from Kenya. I’ll spare you
the reasons why, but the process is extremely difficult for a US
citizen to adopt from Kenya. However, nothing is too
difficult for Thee! We are beginning the process of adoption with the help of Bethany Christian Services and trust that God will
make a way where there seems to be no way.
I think this little guy was almost 2 months old?
New Life Home is a beautiful orphanage with many volunteers who take amazingly good care of these children.
Breanna… if she comes up missing look at my house. 🙂
This little one was quite happy as long as you didn’t try to leave him, so cute but hard to leave behind.

Dining out in Nyeri takes a long time… anywhere from an hour-and-a-half to 3 hours! So you have to leave your American fast-food mindset behind and embrace the opportunity to relax and enjoy conversation. We loved our meal times with Veronica!

Back to Belwop for an evening with the kids!

Vivian (5) is one of 4 sisters that are total orphans because their parents died from AIDS
Julianna, Stella, & Sharon wrestling/loving on Ty
… just like an oreo cookie 🙂

Then it was back to our hotel to attempt a better night’s sleep 🙂
