Some of you may recall a blog post from about 2 months ago about Moses, a baby found abandoned near a bush that was rescued and brought into Veronica’s care at the Belwop.
You can read that post here: A Baby Boy
Well only a few days after that blog post we actually got to hold baby Moses! And well, as you can imagine our hearts were overwhelmed with love and joy over this little one and how God protected him and brought him to Belwop.

When Moses was brought to Veronica he was so malnourished that his skin
was floppy and drooping from his body. Who knows how long he’d been
abandoned and left for dead, but since he couldn’t walk or crawl he had
been lying in his own feces the entire time. As a result, his bottom had
sores so deep and so infected that flesh was hanging off his bottom.
But in just a few days of being cared for at Belwop his bottom was
healed up and he was eating regular meals to put some meat back on his
bones!

Moses LOVED his porridge!
We had the unique opportunity to see the transforming power of a healthy, safe, and loving home in a child’s life in just a few short days.
On Day 1 Moses was a fearful baby who couldn’t walk, crawl, smile, or talk even though doctors estimate him to be about 2 years old.
Then on Day 3 he was starting to walk with someone holding his hand and by Day 4 he was walking on his own!!!
Niki encouraging Moses to walk
Also on Day 4 Moses started uttering his first words, which was a huge encouragement since some children under such trauma will remain mute for many years.
He was still timid and a bit nervous, but quality one-on-one time built some trust and he started interacting and responding through smiles, eye contact, and gestures.
Day 5 was by far the most amazing day with Moses!
Not only was he walking, smiling, and saying a couple words but he was now starting to play and sing!!!
I love singing, but it’s all the sweeter when a child hums or sings along!
When Moses began humming along to my tunes I hardly could contain my joy because it was another sign of hope and life welling up in him!
Moses crying out for help
Normally I wouldn’t post a picture of a crying child, but in this case it is actually a wonderful thing!
Why?
Because it was one more milestone of healthy expression for this little guy. He had become nervous in a playful moment with his siblings and instead of stuffing it and remaining silent in fear, he had learned to cry for help and knew that I would respond.

This is a good thing! …
So back into my arms he goes 🙂
Watching this “baby” turn into a “toddler” in such a short amount of time was absolutely beautiful. Every day it was a new milestone!
And this is the story of every child at Belwop…
from heartache to healing to hope.
