All I can say is yuck! If you don’t know what HFMD is it’s Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease, and it’s what all three of us Schemanski’s have been experiencing for the last week. They say it doesn’t normally affect adults but I guess we’re just the kind of people that like to break the norm. It all started with Nya and a pretty high fever that lasted for a day or so. Then she started acting semi normal so we didn’t think much of it. It was two days later that she started breaking out with blisters on her little fingers and a couple on her feet. About that same time I started with the fever during my first night of work for the week. To make a long story short I had to take the remaining six of my seven days off sick. (I’d have much rather been at work… But I count myself very fortunate to have the benefits that I do.) About half way through the week Niki got a sore throat and fever for a day or so but her body did an excellent job of fighting it off as that’s all that she experienced. Nya seems to be back to normal now and I’m just about there. Just a couple sore on the back of my throat yet but nothing like it was… And just like Nya all the little blisters on my hands and feet are starting to heal.
It’s amazing how well children handle these sorts of things. Since they don’t know how to communicate well they pretty much just have to bear it and really dodn’t make near the fuss an adult in the same situation usually would. Just something to think about…
Anyways, it’s good to be on the road to recovery!
