Final Question Answered!

Those who follow our blog know that we are a little hit and miss on the consistency of our posts, sometimes going months between posts. Well not this time! It’s only been a week, folks!
And what’s so important that it couldn’t wait another month???
Well remember last week when I shared some of the major questions that had been whirling around in our heads the past couple months? And do you remember that most of those questions had been answered through God’s providence and divine timing, except for one major question still looming over us?
Will we buy, build, or rent once we all move to Colorado together?
Well….!!!!
Tada!
I present to you our new house!

Yip, it’s a townhouse (or condo) ~ whichever you want to call it.
After the past few months of keeping a close watch on the housing market and trying to wrap our minds around the inflated home prices, we started to strongly consider the option of building.
We had our eye on two pieces of land in a lovely neighborhood with amazing views and easy access to mountain biking trails. Our plan (or so WE thought) was to try and purchase one of those pieces of land this last week so that we could begin meeting with builders to get bids.
Although, we weren’t super crazy about the idea of building again we felt as though it were our only option to get something affordable in the location we wanted to be in. So we tried to look at all the positive aspects of building and considered what a great opportunity it would be for the girls to be involved in the process with us.
However.
By Wednesday night we were both feeling reservations about actually “pulling the trigger” to purchase the land we were looking at. Couldn’t put our finger on why exactly, but just couldn’t bring ourselves to commit to building yet… even though we’d chosen a house plan, Ty had met with a builder and visited with what would be future neighbors for hours.
We’ve learned that you can’t trust your feelings most of the time, but on the other hand we’ve also learned (or are trying to learn ever more) to wait upon the Holy Spirit when there isn’t peace about something.
Then Thursday comes.
We got word that we’d not been chosen for the rental property that we really wanted… we were incredibly bummed. Ah, but alas… that rental property caused us to notice this townhouse for sale and take interest in it ~ so much so that we stayed up until 2am looking at pictures and talking about it!

Friday Ty was off work and able to get the keys and spend about 2 hours in it!
Facetime made it possible for me to “walk through” the house with Ty and draw out a floor plan as he went around taking measurements!

Well we both knew this was the one and didn’t want to hesitate in making an offer because affordable housing doesn’t stay on the market long in Durango! It just so happened that the realtor had a cancellation that afternoon and was able to meet with Ty to write up an offer that evening 🙂

Sunday we received a counter-offer from the seller’s and then we responded with our counter-offer and they accepted!

So ~ how bout some pics of the inside, shall we?!

The most important room of the house ~ the kitchen!
Super excited about the size of that pantry 🙂

The things we’re most excited about ~ the courtyard and playground right out our front door, mountain biking/hiking trails right out the back, and a paved biking trail to downtown! … and especially the family/community feel of this townhome neighborhood!
This is the view from the girls window ~ they can’t hardly believe that they’re going to have a park right out there front door!
We are so excited about this 1300sqft 3 bed 2.5 bath home, and honestly I don’t think we would have felt this way a couple months ago when we first began searching for a home in Durango. We weren’t looking for anything extravagant, but we were hoping for a 3 – 4 bedroom home in a nice neighborhood, with a yard to play in, a view of the mountains, and access to mountain biking/hiking trails. Turns out that’s what EVERYONE in Durango wants, so you pay a pretty penny for it!
Several years ago God seemed to place on our hearts a strong desire to be debt-free so that we could be financially free to do whatever He may call us to do at any given time in our lives. We take no credit for this ~ it is only a work of the Holy Spirit because we are far too worldly, materialistic, and selfish to uphold this kind of conviction on our own strength. Three years ago we achieved this goal and now that we’ve tasted the freedom that comes from not being tied to a mortgage we greatly desire to do whatever we can to continue walking that path of financial freedom. It didn’t seem like this was going to be possible in Durango, Colorado though… so our hope was to at least try to keep the mortgage down and try to pay it off in 5 years.
But then God led us to THIS house, which not only meets our needs, but also gives us access to so much of the recreational and social life we were hoping for… AND the fact that we don’t have to go in debt again is just an unbelievably wonderful feeling!
I seriously feel like a heavy burden was lifted off of my shoulders this weekend!
And the peace that wasn’t coming with any of the other options we’d been looking into has now come with this decision. The joy and excitement that felt “mustered up” is actually genuine and overflowing over this home (and our many future neighbors)!
