Our Nya Joy Turns 6

“We are a third of the way through raising her…”
These were my bittersweet words to Ty this past Friday, December 28th, when our “little bug” turned 6.

Nya has been a gift to us in more ways than we have time to explain in a simple blog post.
She is smart, witty, humorous, determined, articulate, excited about life, tenderhearted, and desires to understand and know God.
She is also (at times) resistant, opinionated, bossy, insecure, and strong-willed.
And we LOVE her.
Her presence in our lives has taught us much about the love of God for His children.

A year in the life of a 5-year-old is BIG 🙂 … lots of fun milestones to celebrate!
MILESTONE #1
LOSING TEETH
This year Nya lost FOUR teeth!
MILESTONE #2
GRADUATING FROM AWANA CUBBIES
While in Alaska in May & June she got to celebrate her graduation with Grama & Papa (her first year teachers), cousin Sadie, sister Elli (1st year graduate), and friends Chloe, Grady, & Asia who she’s known since birth!
 MILESTONE #3
BALLET LESSONS

This summer Nya took ballet lessons from our neighbor Ashley who’s quite an amazing dancer!
MILESTONE #4
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Vacation Bible School in July
MILESTONE #5
SWIMMING LESSONS
She took swimming lessons for 6 weeks at the YMCA and absolutely loved it!
She can now swim without any floatation devices and loves jumping off the diving board.
MILESTONE #6
TRAINING WHEELS OFF
Every kid knows it’s a big day when the training wheels come off!
In August daddy took them off and off she went!
… really fast!
…now she’s doing tricks…yikes.
MILESTONE #7
KINDERGARTEN
First day of homeschool 🙂

Hiking the Seret Nature Trails for a homeschooling field trip

 MILESTONE #8
LEGOS
At age 3 it was Polly Pockets, at age 4 it was Pet Shop Toys, at age 5 it was arts & crafts, now…
LEGOs have become THE toy in Nya’s world!
(all of this is of coursed heavily laced with a fascination for anything “Disney Princess”)
MILESTONE #9
GROWING TEETH
This girl was not singing “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth”…
she related more with the tune “I want a hippopotamus for Christmas” 🙂

MILESTONE #10
6th BIRTHDAY
This year Nya requested clam chowder and BIG rolls for dinner
and a Candy Cane Cake for dessert!
I crushed real candy canes and used them around the side of the cake and it added a fun texture and sparkle to an otherwise simple cake 🙂
well… a “simple” cake that still took me nearly 8 hours to make (this is SO NOT MY THING)
Coordinating cupcakes for the little friends who would be attending Nya’s party
