FINAL 2 DAYS OF OUR TRIP

As I write this we are 27 hours away from possibly winning $50,000 for the building project for these amazing kids through the ‘Cultivate Wines’ charitable giveaway! This has been a 2-month daily-voting competition and we extend our HUGE thanks to everyone who faithfully voted all along, if we win this thing it will be because hundreds of supporters voted every day!

Our last full day in Nyeri was spent visiting a small souvenir shop out of town, doing a bit more research about the living costs, and spending many hours discussing Veronica’s needs and vision for the Belwop Home.
Left to right: Sharon, Niki, Irene, & Moses on Niki’s lap
One of two helpers at Belwop, a gracious loving woman.
 Ty
took the two older boys Mishek and Peter to a field across from Belwop
so they could have some guy-time to talk about boy things while watching
some soccer. There are only 3 boys at Belwop, so you can imagine the
need for some men to come into these boys lives.
Our
final day at Belwop was fun-filled and emotional at times. We did
all the usual activities in the afternoon but as the sun set we made our
way inside and cranked up the praise music. Visions of Josephine (in
red) dancing, Irene (to my left) singing, and children asking me “have
you seen this band with your real eyes?” fill me with joy even now!
Veronica and the helpers made the most delicious dinner ~ ugali, black
bean stew, fried rice, and chapatis. One of the girls led us in a song
of worship and Josephine led us in prayer before we ate together. The
beauty of that moment was overwhelming and I wish everyone I know could
experience it.
Ty and Caroline have a sweet bond. She loves to talk and really opened up to him.

The next day we left Nyeri and made the 3-hour drive to Nairobi to fly back home. On our way we stopped to meet two of the Belwop girls who are at boarding school.
Look closely at the motto of this High School ~ “Discipline for Success”
…don’t know that you’d ever see that on an American high school! The
children in Nyeri are trained to study hard, respect the rules, and to
study God’s word (in both the public and private schools). They do not separate
God from their businesses, schools, or television programming… it’s
awesome! While eating breakfast one morning we actually caught a couple
minutes of a soap opera and there was a women praying over the phone “in
the mighty name of Jesus, Amen”… on a soap opera! Faith in Jesus is
proclaimed very openly throughout Nyeri… love that.
Jane (left) and Monica (right of Ty) are 15 and have
been part of the Belwop family for 3 or 4 years. Boarding school is very
typical for Kenyans, starting at age 15. They wake up at 4:30am and
stay up until 10pm doing classes and homework.
Our last picture with Veronica at the airport, as you can tell from her face it was a bitter-sweet goodbye.

We
cannot say enough about the transforming power of God in the lives of
the Belwop children. Veronica has provided a home where, by God’s
grace, these little ones
are changed from fearful, abandoned, abused, and neglected children to
ones that are joyful, full of ambition, thoughtful, respectful, smart,
disciplined, and delightful to be around. Veronica does not
take credit for this because she knows it is Christ’s redeeming work in
their hearts that heals and mends their brokenness, but we do praise God
for Veronica’s faithfulness to live out the call that God has placed on
her life. We feel honored and privileged to partner with this woman to
build the children a new home where they can continue growing and
rescuing more orphaned and abandoned children in Nyeri, Kenya.
