Home Improvement

Did anyone just get a kick out of that show Home Improvement? 🙂  I would probably like it even more now that I’m an adult in the midst of raising kids, building a marriage, and trying to remodel a home!  I know one thing, I’m EXTREMELY thankful that my husband is no Tim Allen!…  Ty is a thousand times better!  So, this blog post is for all those who’ve been asking for updated photos on the house progress.  Sorry it has taken so long!… we’ve been so busy working and playing that the house is rarely clean enough to want to take photos for blogging!  But here goes!

The majority of our work recently has been in the kitchen and dining room areas.  This is what the kitchen looked like when we bought the house…

So I got the easy jobs: painting, finding furniture and decor at garage sales, decorating and sewing.  My awesome husband did the hard work of replacing the countertops, replacing the sink, adding cabinet hardware, tearing up the old flooring, replacing all the hinges so the cabinet doors actually stay shut, and replumbing our toilet and sink in the guest bathroom right off the kitchen (I probably missed something!)  He’s amazing…

(He’s not wet from being outside in the rain…  he wanted a hug but I refused! 🙂
Now we’ve got THIS!!!

And I couldn’t be more pleased!
Now onto the dining room… one night this idea of having a picket fence inside our house came to us and then the more we talked about it the more we wanted a tree to go with the fence!  So, after looking at wall mural decals and realizing it would be about $200 at a minimum for one of those I just decided I’d try my hand at artistic painting and see what happened!  Ty was gone for the day so us girls bought our paints and brushes and jumped right in!  I’m so bummed that I have no pictures of this day because our camera and memory cards were missing, seriously how lame huh.  But, the sweetness of that day was precious none the less.  The girls were so excited about helping with this tree and they patiently waited and took turns and listened for instructions.  They would hop in and out of the project as they wished, but when they weren’t helping they played by themselves and then cheered and encouraged me as they watched the progress being made!  The crowning moment was getting to do the pink flowers ~ that was their favorite part.  I can’t say how blessed I feel to have two little girls who love to oooh and ahhh over things with me ~ they make decorating even more fun!  So here is OUR tree…

And Daddy added the finishing touches ~ the picket fence and the shutters 🙂  Then us girls painted the walls gray to show off the shutters better.  And I added the scripture from Psalm 1:3 “You will be like a tree, firmly planted by streams of water, you will yield your fruit in season, your leaves will not wither, and whatever you do will prosper” …

I just love sitting in my living room and staring into the dining room ~ I can’t wait to start having people over more often and filling our home with laughter and the fun of fellowship!
I love having photos of family and friends scattered throughout our home ~ they remind me of what really matters in life ~ people and relationships.  For nearly the past two years our home has been a little void of personal pictures since we were in house-showing mode and then moving here and tackling remodeling projects.  But finally I spent a few days painting frames, printing off pictures, and hanging them!
(you’ll notice that it doesn’t seem to matter what the project of the day is, my girls are either in ballerina outfits or princess dresses… or naked)
Painting my kitchen stool chartreuse to match the kitchen shelves ~ I told Nya we get to distress it in a couple days and she goes “ya, cuz we make things look old because our house is really old” … I think she’s getting it!!!

  1. Good Job Angel!!! You're amazing! Can't wait to see everything in person! xoxo Mom

  2. Even more so than the wonderful pics of your home and yard, I see the delight you are taking in one another as you work. What a wonderful mommy to intimately include the girls in each step. They will rise up and call you blessed 🙂 Love to you!
